IDS COVID-19 Statement March 27th, 2020
Covid-19 is affecting everyone
IDS Members and Competitors,
The COVID-19 pandemic has created global uncertainty and the need for precautions unfamiliar in our lifetimes. Through these trying times, we seek a sense of normalcy, but must face the realities of the situation.
IDS has not been spared from change. All events on the April calendar have been postponed or cancelled including a Felicitas von Neumann-Cosel Clinic, the Heartland Combined Test and Dressage Show, an Alliance Equestrian Schooling Show, and a Lameness and Gait Analysis educational event presented by Janssen Veterinary Clinic.
Next up on the calendar is the May 9th IDS Schooling Show, which is just six weeks away. As of this writing, it is beyond the scope of guidance and directives to cancel issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the State of Indiana, Johnson County Parks and Recreation (which owns and operates the Hoosier Horse Park), USEF, and USDF, so we hope to be able to run the show.
But, as we have seen, restrictions are still tightening. So the IDS Competition Committee has committed to make a decision to open entries for the May Schooling Show by April 7th, two days prior to the opening date. We plan to follow directives covering May 9th from the entities listed above. In the event it must be cancelled, all checks will be shredded and online entries will be refunded in their entirety.
The Indy Dressage Classic is scheduled for June 6th and 7th, and will open for entries on March 30th. We’ll follow guidance from the entities listed above, and will make a go/no-go decision at least two weeks prior to show weekend. In the event it must be cancelled, all checks will be shredded and online entries will be refunded in their entirety.
IDS is in a good financial position to ride out this pandemic, and we are resolute in our mission to promote the growth and development of amateur athletes in the sport of dressage, through competition and education.
Sincerely,
Mike Dawson
IDS President
