It’s Your Turn to Attend the USDF Annual Convention!

by Ken Levy

Have you attended a USDF Annual Meeting/Convention in the past? If not, you are missing a great opportunity to meet new people with similar interests, gain knowledge through excellent educational sessions, listen to judges discuss test issues and topics that challenge us in the show ring, and meet some of the top US riders. In addition, you can gain insight on how the USDF is run and how decisions are made that affect the dressage community.

I have attended the USDF Annual Meeting/Convention for more than 15 years, as GMO member, as competitor, as a PM Delegate, and for the past 9 years as a Regional Director. I still enjoy attending and feel that I learn something new and valuable every year. This year’s meeting will be held in Salt Lake City, Utah from November 28 to December 1.  Plan to come early or stay after to enjoy the world-class winter sports at one of the many outstanding mountain resorts.

Concerned about the cost? The USDF offers help with those finances via the Ruth Arvanette Memorial Grant. This grant is awarded to an applicant each year who plans to attend the Adequan/USDF Annual Convention and includes: 1) reimbursement of up to $500 for airfare*; 2) USDF will pay for 1/2 of the lodging expense for the winner (5 nights maximum)*; and 3) complimentary USDF full convention registration. Full registration includes the convention and university sessions (it does NOT include the Awards Banquet or Salute Gala). Total outlay for the grant would be at most $700, excluding the full convention registration. All that is required is to complete the application that includes a short explanation on why you believe you should be awarded the grant.

I hope that I see many of you at this year’s convention and maybe one of you will be the lucky winner of the Ruth Arvanette Memorial Grant!

Thank you, Ken, for bringing our attention to this fun and informative gathering of dressage enthusiasts. As you mention winter sports in the Salt Lake City area, I checked opening dates for local ski areas. Several will be open by the convention dates.
